Why do I need to get a driver’s license? Can’t I use the license I already have?

In the United States, an individual who is planning on operating a motor vehicle in the state in which she/he resides is required to obtain a license after establishing residence within that state. Foreign licenses will not be viewed as providing valid authorization to drive. Each state's requirements for obtaining a driver's license vary. To learn more about the regulations relating to driver's licenses in your state, visit the state's Department of Motor Vehicle's (DMV) website or call your local DMV office.
