Attorney Catherine Lafferty Magennis is committed to providing advice and advocacy within the complicated immigration system. As a wife of an immigrant from Ireland, she personally understands the tensions immigration laws can have for families and businesses. She firmly believes in open communication and she works with clients directly to ensure the best legal representation. She has successfully represented a broad range of clients in naturalization and citizenship cases, waivers, adjustment of status (permanent residence/green cards), consular process, temporary protection status (TPS), deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA), special visas for juvenile immigrants (SIJS), U visas, VAWAs, and deportation defense. Fluent in Spanish, she enthusiastically represents her clients to achieve the American Dream.


  • Catherine graduated with honors from the University of North Carolina Law School, where she served as President of the Immigration Association and participated in the Immigration / Human Rights Clinic.
  • She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Latin American and Spanish Studies from the University of North Carolina. There, she was a part of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.
  • She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA)

  • Catherine has been a regular contributor and immigration law columnist since 2016 for La Noticia, the largest Spanish language newspaper between Washington, DC, and Atlanta, with a circulation of more than 300,000.
