Attorney Catherine Lafferty Magennis is committed to providing advice and advocacy within the complicated immigration system. As a wife of an immigrant from Ireland and a granddaughter of an immigrant from Italy, she personally understands the tensions immigration laws can have for families and businesses. She firmly believes in open communication and she works with clients directly to ensure the best legal representation. She has successfully represented a broad range of clients in waivers, adjustment of status (permanent residence/green cards), consular process, temporary protection status (TPS), deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA), special visas for juvenile immigrants (SIJS), U visas, VAWAs, and deportation defense. Fluent in Spanish, she enthusiastically represents her clients to achieve the American Dream.


  • Catherine graduated from the Law School with honors from the University of North Carolina, where she served as President of the Immigration Association and participated in the Immigration / Human Rights Clinic.
  • She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Latin American and Spanish Studies from the University of North Carolina. There, she was a part of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.
  • She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA)
