Garfinkel Immigration staff spotlight: Senior Paralegal/Team Lead Carrie Sparr

Welcome to the Garfinkel Immigration staff spotlight series, where we will conduct a bimonthly Q&A with one of the Firm’s team members. In this edition, we spoke with Senior Paralegal/Team Lead Carrie Sparr.

What drew you to the immigration law field?

I started my career as a legal assistant for an immigration law practice almost 15 years ago and never looked back. I was immediately drawn to the human element of immigration law and being able to connect with clients. It is incredibly rewarding to know the work we do makes it possible for individuals and families to build a life here in the United States.

Working in immigration law has also allowed me the opportunity to collaborate alongside driven and compassionate attorneys and paralegals.

What have you found most rewarding about working in immigration law?

It is always wonderful to receive an approval for a difficult case or find a creative solution to a challenging situation. That said, I find it most rewarding when a green card is approved for an individual who has been on a long journey to permanent residency.

It is so fulfilling to see the completion of this extensive process and know how much it means to the individual to finally have a green card in hand.

What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not working?

I spend most of my time not working with my family. My three kids are at a young age, so I am soaking up this time before the hustle and bustle of school and extracurricular activities begin. My husband and I also enjoy getting out of the house without the kids when we can go see a concert or sporting event or try out a new restaurant.

What is your favorite movie or TV show? Why?

It is hard to pinpoint an absolute favorite, but one show I’ve really enjoyed recently is Ted Lasso. It’s the perfect feel-good show.

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?

I am an avid football fan. To me, there is nothing better than football season – the camaraderie, the competition – it’s my favorite time of year. I love cheering on my college and pro teams (Go Gamecocks! Go Panthers!), but also just enjoy watching a good game no matter the teams.
